Remote operation/Safety
Tiefenbach offers state of the art possibilities of shield remote control.
From surface with a face remote – client; this option allows to do any single function of the shield by button pressing on the screen of the monitoring system. The control system provides quick feedback for the best and most precise controlling action. Any single function for correcting purpose general operation can bestarted from the surface as well.
Longwall remote control with radio hand transmitter provides the possibility to stay in a clear position when operating a shield on the face. Extremely beneficial with higher shields and two walkways where a clear view to the tip of the canopy is not easily given.
The radio remote hand held is the patented way of operating a PRS provided by Tiefenbach. It does allow to stay off the hazard areas, but still with a direct view to the shield operation. This includes:
- Better view of the elements to be moved, for example: flap cap.
- Feedback of the sensor values of the ASG
- Configurable key layout
- A connection to the nearest ASG5 is established in the field of view via infrared.
- Subsequently, an ASG can be selected by radio in this area to be controlled.
The face remote client connects itself to the VisuMx-Server, which then establish a connection via the MCU to the desired target unit.
A handshake operation is build up, whereat the face remote client first provide the required information from the selected shield, e.g. valve allocation, sensor input, etc. . Then the client is ready to start a shield remote control. During the control you will get some information from the controlled shield.
The responses from the controlled shield are:
- shield LED on / off
- which valve is current active
- current sensor values
Even it is not allowed to remote control a shield, you will get also a response from the system, such as shield already controlled from neighbor, shield is doing an automatically LAS, etc.

Coal Cam
The CoalCam is an advanced camera system designed for monitoring hazardous areas. It is particularly suited for underground mining spaces, where the risk to operating personnel near mining machinery is especially high.

Shield height recognition system
Via several inclinometers in different parts of the shield and the conveyor and a reed rod in the stabilizing cylinder, the actual height of the shield and the inclination of the conveyor in relation to the shield can be calculated.
